About
The American Moot Court Association (AMCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education about the legal profession, legal policy, the United States Constitution, and the American judiciary among undergraduate students. By organizing and administering national moot court competitions, AMCA provides collegiate-level opportunities for students to engage with case law, develop legal reasoning and argumentation skills, and present their arguments before a panel of judges. Through these activities, AMCA aims to foster a deeper understanding and interest in legal issues among the next generation of legal professionals.
More About the AMCA
Mission
Board of Governors
Executive Cabinet
AMCA’s purpose is to promote education about and interest in the profession of law, legal policy, the United States Constitution, and the American judiciary among undergraduate students at American colleges and universities. To accomplish this purpose, AMCA organizes and administers national oral and written moot court competitions for undergraduate students and seeks to develop an alumni network of individuals with continuing interest in legal issues. In providing collegiate-level moot court activities, AMCA desires to create practical opportunities for college students to engage with case law, hone legal reasoning and the application of law to facts, develop and communicate their own legal arguments before a panel of judges subject to time constraints, answer questions about the arguments they present, and demonstrate appropriate courtroom demeanor and forensic skill.
The Board of Governors is the governing body of the American Moot Court Association. They are responsible for overseeing all corporate powers and managing the affairs of AMCA, including the drafting and selection of case problems for competitions, electing officers, and establishing policies and procedures. Additionally, the Board can delegate certain powers to the Executive Cabinet, except for specific reserved powers such as amending the bylaws, approving budgets, and making final decisions on key governance matters.
The Executive Cabinet of the AMCA is a special standing committee consisting of seven members elected by the Board of Governors from among its own members. This cabinet assumes general supervision of the AMCA’s business and affairs. It is empowered to establish, amend, and interpret tournament rules and other policies, facilitate the drafting and selection of case problems, oversee day-to-day operations, and undertake strategic planning, among other duties.
